Module 6 Overview: Lesson Planning for Your Context (Part I)
Learning Objectives for Module 6
By the end of the Module you will be able to:
- Use active listening techniques to respond to classmates’ posts on teaching their students about critical thinking and culture
- Plan a lesson for your students that incorporates critical thinking and intercultural communication
- Follow a lesson plan template to design a complete lesson plan
- Answer questions about your teaching context and your thought process for planning a lesson
- Write about ways you can put tips for organizing professional development activities into action
- Offer thoughtful and constructive feedback on a classmate’s lesson plan
Welcome to Module 6
This module is called "Lesson Planning for Your Context." Now we are really bringing what we have been talking about in this course to apply it directly to your teaching context. In this module, you will reflect on student needs, design a lesson that promotes intercultural competence and critical thinking, as well as read and think about organizing professional development events.
Module 6 Dates: May 17-23
- Read classmates’ posts on “What I learned about my students” in the discussion forum (45 minutes).
Try to do this on the first day, Tuesday, May 17. - Respond to at least two posts from the “What I learned about my students” discussion (60 minutes).
Try to do this also on Tuesday, May 17. - Begin preparing to design a lesson plan, which will be posted later in the week (60 minutes).
Try to do this on Wednesday, May 18. - Watch four experienced teachers and teacher trainers talk about their thought processes on lesson planning. Then take a comprehension quiz (20 minutes).
Do this by Wednesday, May 18. - Design and post a lesson plan to do with your students that involves one area of critical thinking and one of culture (3 hours).
Try to post this by Friday, May 20. - Respond to at least three of your classmates’ lesson plans. You are encouraged to respond quickly, but will also have time in Module 7 if needed (2 hours).
Try to do this by Saturday, May 21. - Read the guidelines for organizing professional development events (45 minutes).
Do this by Sunday, May 22. - Answer questions about how to put the guidelines into practice (15 minutes).
Do this by Sunday, May 22. - Check to make sure you've completed the assignments for Module 6 and take some time to reflect on your learning (30 minutes)
Suggested date: Monday, May 23 - Review key vocabulary from Module 6 (10 minutes)
