Module 6: Lesson Planning Preparation
In Week 8, you will conduct with your learners an activity designed to teach culture and critical thinking. This week, you are to design a full lesson plan, with every step in the lesson described in detail. Between this week and next, you will receive classmates’ feedback on your ideas. Next week, you will be asked to revise the lesson plan. For this week (Week 6), complete the following steps:
- Study the lesson plan template as a pdf
(and here it is as a Word file
). This document includes notes to explain each part of the lesson plan template.
Please read this document and use it to guide your own lesson planning and write-up. If you have further questions about the template, don’t hesitate to contact your instructor.
- Spend time thinking about your ideas for your class. You are encouraged to stimulate your thoughts about this through activities such as talking to colleagues, reviewing discussions from our course, reading suggested supplemental reading (see several suggestions below), or searching keywords such as “lesson plan critical thinking EFL” in Google, YouTube, or the like.
- Consider the following questions (which you will answer when you submit the plan):
- Who are your students (how many, age, language level, and purposes for studying English)?
- What aspect of critical thinking does this lesson work on?
- What aspect of intercultural awareness and culture does this lesson work on?
- How does this lesson address what you learned about your students in your inquiry from Weeks 4 and 5?
- In this lesson, what do anticipate students will be challenged by?
- What will you do to address these challenges? Note the specific activities that will address these challenges.
- How will you assess your students? Note specific stages and specific activities that you will use for assessment.
- What are the lesson objectives? List them.
- On the following page, watch two videos of teachers talking about lesson planning. Then, take a quiz on it.
